Islam

The word “Islam” means “submission to the will of God”. There are over one billion followers of Islam (Muslims) all over the world. Muslims believe that the Qur’an is the word of God revealed to His last and final prophet, Mohammed (peace be upon him). Every Muslim believes in:

1. Allah – the one and only God
2. Angels – the creation of Allah (SWT) for different purposes and none of them has any role in divinity.
3. Messengers and prophets – Human beings selected by Allah (SWT) as his messengers. They were sent by Allah (SWT) to every nation throughout the ages with the message of Unity of God, and accountability in the Hereafter. Islam thus makes it an article of faith to believe in all the earlier prophets, starting with Adam, and continuing with Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, John and Jesus amongst many others (may peace be on them all). Muslim faith is that Mohammad (Peach Be Upon Him) is the last of all the prophets sent by Allah (SWT). After Mohammad (PBUH), there is no prophet to come till the end of times or “Qiyamah”.
4. Revelations on earlier prophets – directly from Allah (SWT) or through angels. Previously revealed scriptures include Tawrat (Torah), Zabur (Psalms) and the Injil (Gospels).
5. The Judgment Day or “Qiyamah” – is preordained by God but unknown to man. However, certain indications of approach of the Judgment day have been mentioned in the Qur’an and sayings of holy prophet (PBUH).
6. Predestination – Allah (SWT) has full knowledge and control over everything. Everything in the world that happens, has been preordained and nothing can happen unless permitted by Allah (SWT). Man possesses free will in that he has the faculty to choose between right and wrong, and is thus responsible for his actions.
7. Life after death.

Islam is the second largest religion in the world (the largest being Christianity) and is the fastest growing religion in the world.
