What is the duration of a Fast in Islam?

Islam doesn’t link the duration of fast with a constant time for the whole year. Rather, the duration of fast is linked with the duration of day. Therefore, it varies during the year, depending upon the timings of sunrise and sunset.

Qur’an guides as follows:

“And eat and drink until the whiteness of the day becomes distinct from the blackness of the night at dawn, then complete the fast till night.” – (Surah Al Baqarah, Ayah 187)
